An Italian Hero is the story of Aigo, an undocumented migrant, stranded in Italy, who is looking for his place in the country he is in. He is snobbish, unfair, argumentative, indolent, hypochondriac, and fearful. The opposite of what one expects from a migrant, from the rhetoric of the good and grateful, helpful and courageous, or on the contrary, delinquent. But above all, Aigo is angry. Angry at being in a country he did not choose and that does not want him. Angry because he does not know how to find his place in the world. He sets out to get his papers in Italy by performing a heroic act. He meets Teco, a retired Navy admiral.
Teco is as angry as Aigo. He has been forced off the ships on which he has lived all his life in protected, orderly and hierarchical isolation because of his wife’s illness, the only contact with a reality the admiral has never come to terms with. Since his wife’s death, Teco’s misanthropy has reached pathological levels, to the point of alienating him from his daughter, who wants nothing more to do with him.
The encounter between Aigo and Teco, distant, lonely, blind in their anger, will force them both to overcome prejudices and certainties in order to find a ground on which they can communicate and grow. A comedy of strong topicality, great irony and strong emotions.
