Uomini e vino traces the journey to Friuli Venezia Giulia made by Mario Soldati (for the magazine “Grazia”) after 40 years, discovering local wines. “Good wine is like an act of faith, a secret religion”: this is what Soldati wrote, just before leaving. Now, 40 years later, we make the same journey and we try to understand what happened in the meanwhile. It is a journey through places and people who have inherited the memory of the past. It is not a film for experts. It is a film about words, men, villages, houses, and wines: inns and dreams. Traditions and market. It is about a particular job, which requires passion and commitment. The final goal is to know, to evaluate wine men, to recover the past.
