In 1946 Istria was a torn and contested place. Pula was included in the so-called “Zone A” together with Trieste, administered by the Allies, and was the only part of Istria outside of Yugoslav control. On 18 August an explosion on the beach of Vergarolla, just outside Pula caused the confirmed death of 65 people. Today there is still no guilty party, and the massacre seems erased from history. Why? What emerged from the police investigations? Why has no one searched for the truth in all these years?
